34C3 Watchlist
Another year has passed and that means another congress has been visited. This year the congress moved to Messe Leipzig instead of the CCH in Hamburg. I was sceptical about the new location in the beginning.
Exibition halls are something new for congress and we really liked the style of CCH in the past. But CCH is being renovated and parts of the building have been completely torn down. So a new location was found and boy is it a location. The Messe Leipzig is really huge compared to CCH. I walked over 100km during the four days, just travelling between “Heaven” (the hub for volunteering “angels”), assemblies area, and the talks.
Long story short, it was (again) amazing. Obviously, there are still some rough edges to be smoothed for the next congress. For example, the flow of people leaving the talks versus the people entering the next talks took some time to get right. I think it finally worked at the third day but that still works as an example of things that didn’t work out-of-the-box.
